A BIG feeling of Spirit for the Children

WHAT A DAY! I am truly honored, proud of & thankful for you Kingston!

Thank you to everyone who took time to come and visit the Halloween Party at Spirit Halloween yesterday!

It was pretty nerve-wracking getting back into cosplay again after a 2+ year hiatus for most of us due to the current way of the world. But for the children anything is possible! It felt very rewarding and above all fun to do what I love the most.. making people smile. I'm glad most parents remembered who the X-men was and even the older children did too.

With your help we raised almost $200 for Spirit Halloween's Spirit of Children which will go to CHEO

All of us are honored you could come and have fun!

Your money will be providing, costumes, accessories, decorations, and most everything needed for a party as well as sensory and educational items, toys used for distraction during medical procedures, and much more.

A BIG thank you to our special cosplay guests and volunteers! Please feel free to share your pictures or fun memories with us! on Facebook & Instagram #proheros

PROheros at King Con Kingston 2021!

We just had to Live just a bit of tease of King Con Kingston 2021 this past June!

With the participation of #KingstonStorm and members of The Society of Creative Anachronisms the Greyfells Stronghold (Kingston), we dug into how true to source does a costume have to be. Do you have to make your own costume? How true do the materials for a medieval garb have to be? Is it okay to buy a ready-made costume or hire someone else to sew for it you? Drop in to hear the opinions of our guests and ask them questions about costumes and making them.

I got to share some memories with Sarah Caracciolo as Shinjokun and Funassyi, my first cosplay as Houndoom and the great work my cosplay inspiration IG: @thegirlwithagreatsmile (January/Jordan Cosplay) does with reusing and recycling her awesome and affordable cosplays.

All of our #proheros want to give the BIGGEST THANK YOU to King Con Kingston for asking us to join their panel discussion and Heather for being the BEST host. It was great to meet members of the Greyfells Stronghold and #KingstonStorm cannot wait to see you all at the next King Con Kingston (hopefully in person!)

Ever wonder about Wonder Woman?

Did you know there have been many different versions of Wonder Woman? We've posted about the different ethnically diverse Wonder Woman who have taken up the mantle, you can read up on our posts:

Created by Robert Kanigher & Don Heck of DC Comics, Nubia first appeared in 'Wonder Woman #204 - The Second Life of the Original Wonder Woman' in 1973.
Nubia is Wonder Woman's "black sister", created from black clay, just as Diana was created from white clay. Both were brought to life by Aphrodite, but Nubia was stolen after her birth by Ares (otherwise known as Mars)Created by Gene Luen Yang, Viktor Bogdanovic and Billy Tan for DC Comics, Peng Deilan is the Wonder Woman of China. Her first appearance was in 'New Super-Man #1: Made in China' published in September 2016. Her story was woven into Chinese legend as the Legend of the White Snake.

Created by Joƫlle Jones, Yara's first appearance was in 'Dark Nights: Death Metal #7' and in 'Future State: Wonder Woman Vol 1 #1' both published by DC Comics in January 2021. Yara Flor is not from the Island of Themyscira but the rainforests of the Amazon in Brazil (South America.) She has a faithful winged steed, Jerry and a forest guardian spirit named Caipora. Created by Jim and Stan Lee, Maria made her first appearance in 'Just Imagine: Wonder Woman #1' published by DC Comics in January, 2002. Maria works as an activist protesting against the ruthless excavation of an ancient holy site in Santa Atalaya, Cuzco, Peru. Maria was given a golden staff named ' Tapac-Yauri' and imbued with incredible powers.

Do you know any other Wonder Woman versions that we should Feature? Please remember to check our page every week to see a new hero featured! And please comment on anyone you'd like to see on our page!

What happens on Wednesdays?

Looking for more from PROheros? What do our cosplayers do when they're not entertaining?

Every week on Wednesday we have a multicultural superheroine feature with information about various female icons/characters in the media.

These women can be from the news, comics, books, videogames, mythology or the big screen! So far we've posted about fellow X-men members, children's book artists, multicultural comic book creators and a few well-loved actresses.

Got a suggestion? We would love to see your comments on different multicultural features you would like us to post about!

Giant Tiger and PROheros give back to Kingston!

Working at Giant Tiger has given me ways to give back and help out the community.

Last April 2020 at Giant Tiger we put together care packages for our brave first responders & frontline workers in the community. Thanks to the great idea of her Giant Tiger-245 store Owner! Our local PROheros members #KingstonSpiderwoman #KingstonStorm #NubiaTheAmazon and #SpideyX got honored with their own bags too! From all of us at PROheros we want to thank everyone who is helping out anyway they can.

With the current state of the world finally calming down and looking more positive and safe every day we cannot wait to get our members back out into the community soon and making friends/smiles!

Missing and Found: Time to catch up!

Where has creative.DUNNING been?

With the growth of PROheros Cosplay Entertainment and my involvement within the cosplay fandom/community, unfortunate technical difficulties, rising job responsibilities and the current continuing state of the world.. I do apologize for the delay in returning to my regular blogging.

The latter half of 2021 will bring forth some unfinished works and new posts. So to everyone who has followed since the beginning, been patiently waiting or just tuning in brand new - Thank you and welcome to all that is me! This blog started as a college project and continued into a chronical of my adventures and experiences. Who knows, maybe I will get my Youtube channel going again next year!

Please comment anything you'd like to be updated on, or a section of my blog that you'd like more new posts about!

PROheros found the real heroes at the Canadian Cancer Society

Over the past few months PROheros Cosplay Entertainment had the honor of participating in this year's 2018 Kingston Relay for Life sponsored by the Canadian Cancer Society. #KingstonSpiderwoman was very honored to be able to fundraise and participate in this very meaningful and powerful event.

PROheros was able to organize many different ways you could donate, our Facebook Shop will continue to stay open for any further donations to carry into the next years to come (or if you're just interested in buying our merchandise regardless) and our Participation Centre will remain open until the end of August.
"Lastnight was a huge honor to meet and walk with so many fighters, survivors, children, participants, teams and volunteers. I'm overwhelmed at how much #KingstonSpiderwoman was loved by everyone at Relay For Life Kingston - Kingston Relay For Life and it was an honor to meet members of the Canadian Cancer Society You all are the real #proheros and heroes! It made walking (however many laps) non-stop for 6 hours way more than worth it, and I was very touched to have 2 teams clap as I finished my final lap. A big thank you again to everyone who donated and you will see PROheros again next year!" - Jessica Dunning, CEO of PROheros Cosplay Entertainment
From 6pm until midnight #KingstonSpiderwoman walked the relay non-stop and got to meet many people and hear many stories. It was definately an honor, and the real heroes are the survivors, fighters, friends and family who deal or try to delegate hope through cancer every day.

PROheros would like to personally give a BIG thank you to the following people, along with the members of the A.B.A.T.E Motorcycle Club - Woodstock Chapter 2, who selflessly donated - together we raised $271.00:

CEO Jessica Ayla (PROheros of Kingston, Cosplay Entertainment)
Yuta Shimizu
Kaela Simpson
William Hutton (Garton-Hutton Print Solutions)
Jacqueline Doummar Vienneau

Rosie Webster (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
Brooke Middleton (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
Scott (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
Carol Burroughsford (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
Dee and Darryl (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
Big Mamma J (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)
'Cab' (A.B.A.T.E Woodstock Chapter)

I'm glad that I could have #KingstonSpiderwoman provide some smiles and laughter through such an emotional and empowering evening. Together Kingston was able to raise in total (and counting) over $108,645.00.

Another Year.. Another Anime North!

After several stressful hardships I DID single-handedly make it to Anime North this year (If I can survive a weekend solo in Toronto, I can survive almost anywhere right?) The weather was hot, the cosplay was phenomenal and the crow was fun! Also my AirB&B hosts were secret nerds and marveled in my different cosplays everyday - their dog Oliver was cute too! I was very excited to see some recurring friends & cosplayers from previous years along with finally meeting some friends & cosplayers that I had been following and befriending on social media also!

Friday was a mix of last minute cosplay fixing, UBER rides turn to train rides, an exhaustion nap and finally making it for the Evening opening of Anime North.
#KingstonStorm from PROheros came with me to start off the weekend. I did not know Toronto would LOVE her soooo much!? I was greatly surprised - people love the 90's white version of her suit as opposed to others apparently. I also was able to attend some panels, workshops and browse some of the Merchandise and Artist galleries.

Out of all three of the cosplays (4 costumes in total) I brought with me think #KingstonStorm was definitely 2nd in the Fan Favourites and she will definitely come back for 2019.

Saturday was a double feature cosplay wise; after sleeping in because  of my Friday journey I started the day as a member the Inflatable Dinosaur squad! There were around 7 of us in total throughout the entire day (that I saw) and it was a blast! Although the heat was not kind and I had to stop every 40min and rest for half an hour I did manage to entertain everyone until around 3pm in the afternoon.

It was alot of fun scaring people, eating people, posing for photos and shaking my tail for videos. Some people take cosplay and conventions so seriously that I was glad I could bring so many smiles and so much laughter for a day.

Once the dinosaur had to retire for the evening - and I think I lost 50lbs in pure sweat and willpower alone #KingstonSpiderwoman attended the rest of night with me. It was nice to see some of my other fellow Spideys from the universe along with other Deadpool's and superheroes/comic book characters.

#KingstonSpiderwoman from PROheros was also able to attend some panels & workshops with me along with some great performances by Nagata Shachu - the most amazing Japanese taiko drumming and music group ever!

The Inflatable Dinosaur was for sure 1st in the Fan Favourites this year! The best purchase ever from my beloved workplace Spirit Halloween Kingston!

On Sunday I got to partner with my coworker Sarah as Japanese City mascots. I was Shinjokun and Sarah was Funassyi. I think we made a great pair and our costumers were pretty darn cute! I was most excited for this cosplay the entire weekend - I even made 2 new friends with some Japanese cosplayers who LOVED who we were! Those girls were great!

While I attended some other demonstrations while shopping for cosplay supplies I was even applauded by the fact I proudly had a bowl of ramen with fried egg included, as a hat on my head.

This lead to an amusing explanation and some advice and tips from one of the masters at the Arda Wigs booth! They had sponsored to sell & demonstrate some of Lumin's Workshop Foam Clay! It was alot of fun and I got to play with samples! This stuff has a clay-putty like consistency and dries cured to a foam lightness and flexibility!?

Overall I'm proud of myself for surviving the weekend, had a great time, and cannot wait to start planning already for next year! Some of the more notable panels I attended, I will be later blogging about here:
- Convention Survival: Solo Weekends
- POC: People of Colour in Cosplay
- Females in Fandom

Do you have ideas on who/what I should Cosplay next? My current list includes: the Escaflowne mobile suit, a Shadow Hunter, an original character designed by Mike Rooth (Ottawa Comic con poster) not to mention more characters to come to PROheros Cosplay Entertainment! Please feel free to leave a comment on who/what I should consider adding to my (ever growing) list.

Anime North.. Bring it on!

This year I will be SO busy all weekend! Between the various cosplay, meeting new friends, going to performances, workshops and panels, hunting down my coworkers, photoshoots and taking a million pictures & selfies.. I don't know how much sleep I will get, but you can sleep when you're dead right? Here is my FINAL line-up what I've been planning.. Unfortunately some characters had to be taken out and shuffled around:
FRIDAY MAY 25TH 2018:
On Friday evening #KingstonStorm (from PROheros Cosplay Entertainment) will be there looking for other fellow X-men (I told her to leave her cape at home though because we have been warned of a heat wave)

SATURDAY (Morning/Afternoon) MAY 26TH 2018:
Toronto_Dadpool, Spider_Seebs and I will be commanding a legion of almost 10+ inflatable dinosaurs! This should be incredibly entertaining - and alot of batteries needed!

SATURDAY (Afternoon/Evening) MAY 26TH 2018:
Next I have invited my great friend Kingston Spiderwoman (again courtesy of PROheros Cosplay Entertainment) to accompany me Saturday night. She is very excited to meet the other Spiderverse characters and make some new Toronto friends!

SUNDAY MAY 27TH 2018:
Finally this is the cosplay I am most excited for (save the Dinosaur stampede) I will be a yuru-kyara called Shinjokun! (Yuru-kyara (or yuru-chara) is a a category of Japanese mascot characters usually created to promote a place or region, event, organisation or business.) Did you know every City in Japan has a mascot? I LOVE THEM!

I have chosen Shinjo-kun (which represents Suzaki City.) She's ADORABLE and I also LOVE river otters - if you didn't know. She wears a Nabemono hot-pot (with an egg, green onion, 2 pieces of kamaboko-fish cake and a mess of noodles) as a hat, which other mascots usually steal or borrow from her. You can learn more about Shinjo here and here is her Facebook Page.

One of my amazing coworkers is going to be Funassyi. Although not yet official, he represents Funabashi City. She has kept the final product a secret from me, so I am excited to see her on Sunday!

I will keep everyone updated via my Facebook & Instagram stories, until I can get home Monday to upload pictures. Let me know in the comments if anyone else is coming this year, what cosplay they will have, and if they want to meet!

Spending Easter at Kingston Comic con

Along with an extensive amount of cooking & baking - along with catching up on some much needed sleep, I spent my Easter weekend with PROheros Cosplay Entertainment at Kingston Comic con which was hosted by Pop Culture Canada at Queen's West Campus. The day was filled with a lot of amazing cosplayers, familiar and friendly faces, new friends, new fans and a lot of high fives and pictures taken!

#KingstonSpiderwoman and #KingstonBatman had a beautiful comic book style photography booth set up to meet and give free pictures with Con-goers all day! Helping them have fun with Kingston citizens was Catwoman and the Riddler. They were joined by members of the Capital City Garrison - 501st Legion storm troopers. Among some of the great people that they met were.. other Spidermen, The Beast (without Belle), Joker & Harley Quin, Hello Kitty Battle armor AND FURRIES (4 amazing super soft friendly furries!) Spiderwoman even had an interview with 'Your Kingston.' But the highlight of the day was meeting so many kids of Kingston and being able to see their faces light up (or in fear) seeing some of their favourite superheroes in real life. I saw alot of smiles that day from kids and parents. Feels pretty amazing.

Overall it was an incredibly rewarding, entertaining, tiring, fun filled learning experienced day! We learned a lot and laughed a lot. We even met some cosplayers who want to help out when they can! PROheros is growing! But for now here are some photos of the day, you can view them all fully on our Facebook Page:

A Children's Wish is a Party

Last month I had the honor of taking Kingston Spiderwoman to the Princess & Superhero Dance Party hosted by the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada National Chapter.

Spiderwoman had an absolute blast meeting the many children & superheroes of Kingston! She received so many high fives and hugs all afternoon! She was even taught how to dance by a few small princesses. We were very honored to be able to help such a great cause!

The whole point of starting my business, PROheros of Kingston, Cosplay Entertainment, is:
- inspire people that anyone can be a hero no matter what gender, race or religion,
- show more woman that they can be superheroes too,
- showcase the various multicultural superheroes that are lesser known in comic books, videogames, mythology and more,
BUT most importantly to entertain children and bring some smiles into their lives! And this party helped me do exactly that!

I can't wait for my next event, please follow my Facebook & Instagram to keep up with my upcoming events/parties!
You can see ALL the pictures taken at the party by the amazing Eden Grove Photography at their pixieset online gallery here:

https://edengrovephotography.pixieset.com/childrenswishfoundationprincesssuperheroparty2018/

Here are a few of the pictures from the party that we caught Spiderwoman in! She cannot wait to help out the Children's Wish Foundation again soon.

For all the events PROheros has done (and hopes to do) in support of the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada

New Heroes in town!

Previously I made a post about my updated plans for 2018 on my blog, I introduced you to some new blogs & video ideas and also my new business! Today I wanted to officially give a proper welcome (and explanation) to PROheros [of Kingston] Cosplay Entertainment!

PROheros is a cosplay (costume) entertainment service business. Looking for Black Panther to sing 'happy birthday' to your son? Or Catwoman to take pictures at your high school graduation? PROheros wants to service all kinds of events, such as birthday parties, public festivals and even hospital or private care visits! With every booking partial proceeds will be given to local charity - every time!

"I've called Kingston my home for so many years now that I decided to give back to the community. And ever since I started dressing up for Spirit Halloween and having a party for the children at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) every year I figured "why can't someone start this in Kingston too?" - Jessica Dunning, CEO
I've always been passionate about dramatic arts and her community. It's been my dream to one-day combine both of those passions into not just a job but a life long career that could benefit many! With over 13+ years of Musical Theatre experience and an 8+ month internship at Walt Disney World (working as a Creative Costuming hostess,) I hope to be able to inspire and entertain with the encouragement that anyone can be a hero - no matter how old, young, race or religion! There are various different forms of superheroes in our comic books, manga, anime, video games and storybooks that aren't just the cookie cutter norm.

Every Wednesday PROheros posts a different multicultural superheroine (supporting more female heroes) picked at random! We would love to hear more suggestions for our feature posts! They can be anywhere from comic books, mythology, videogames or more..

It's been a blast inviting the new Kingston Spiderwoman to come to town, she has had a great welcome into the community and has already helped Kingston General Hospital and the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada! I've also heard she may have 2 new friends coming to Kingston, here's a hint.. did you know that Spiderwoman likes "Bats" and "Ants?" As our business continues to grow we can't wait to invite more superheroes to come to Kingston!

You can follow my newest (and biggest) adventures on Facebook @PROherosKingston and also Instagram @proheroskingston to learn about many multicultural superheroes around the world, and my ever growing group of superhero (and cosplay) friends!

I'd like to personally thanks everyone who has already supported and helped my most ambitious business! Do you have a picture with any of our characters? Please tag us and use our hashtags so that we can give you a shoutout & thank you!

*PROheros [of Kingston] does not claim to represent authentic Marvel, DC Comics, or any other fictional character(s).*

What's taken so long!?

Okay so 2017 was kind of lacking in my blogging - I apologize! After removing a lot of toxic people & situations out of my life (and finding more positively fantastic ones instead), a lot of business hunting and side projects established it's time to get back on this for real! So whats been going on?

I have footage for about 5 other videos that I badly need to get done, I did buy myself new video editing software (Happy Birthday & Merry Christmas to myself) so I promise they will be on my Youtube throughout 2018. Some of my ideas are as follows:
- How to survive house parties
- Dancing 101: Michael Jackson moves
- When He leaves His first shirt at your house
- Dancing 101: How to K-pop
- When your roommates aren't home
- Dancing 101: Charlie Brown moves (saving for Christmas/New Years sorry!)
- Porter by Scroobius Pip (stop-motion cover)
- A day in the life of #KingstonSpiderwoman?
- "The Weatherman" a special movie production by my best friend and I - loosely based on a true story of one of my exes (haha)

Speaking of exes.. I have a new blog series to start, again purely comedic and loosely based on true events in my dating struggles (thank God that's over now!) Along with helping my one of my best friends officially launch her own business.. LadyWOLF Creations!

But on top of all of my video & blogging inspiration, has been my biggest pride & joy.. the launch of my Superhero for hire business.. PROheros [of Kingston] Cosplay Entertainment! Servicing the ygk area for costumed character parties, fundraisers, public events, hospital visits & private photoshoots!

I've called Kingston my home for so many years now that I decided to give back to the community. And ever since I started dressing up for Spirit Halloween and having a party for the children at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) every year I figured "why can't someone start this in Kingston too?" SO I did! Please stay tuned to learn more!

Are there any other ideas you have for funny or informational blogs & videos you'd like to see? Or any superheroes you'd like me to invite next? Please comment your thoughts!
